U.S. Global Change Research Program Welcomes Dr. Julian Reyes as Deputy Director for Services
USGCRP is pleased to announce that Dr. Julian Reyes will serve as the Deputy Director for Services. Dr. Reyes is on detail to the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, where he serves as Assistant Director for Climate Services.
Dr. Reyes comes to OSTP and USGCRP from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, where he is the National Coordinator for USDA’s Climate Hubs. From that position, he brings broad experience providing actionable, decision-relevant resources to stakeholders and the public to help manage climate risks. USGCRP thanks USDA for making Dr. Reyes’ detail possible.
In addition to his roles at USDA, Dr. Reyes’ experience includes fellowships with AAAS and USGCRP. His AAAS Science and Technology Fellowship was with the Department of State, where he supported negotiations related to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) including its first Gender Policy, the Arctic Council, and the International Maritime Organization. At USGCRP, Dr. Reyes supported development of authoritative indicators of climate change.
In his new roles at OSTP and USGCRP, Dr. Reyes will implement the recommendations of a recent Fast-Track Action Committee on Climate Services (https://www.whitehouse.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/FTAC_Report_03222023_508.pdf).
