Current Activities
Improving climate information systems: holding discussions on climate data and information for resilience planning, decision-support tools for climate risk management, and improving access to downscaled climate projections to support decision-making under deep uncertainty.
Documenting climate adaptation strategies: considering current practices and research needs for how various adaptation strategies are implemented and how they perform along economic, ecological, and social dimensions. The FARG currently has a particular focus on Nature-Based Solutions and Benefit-Cost Analyses.
Promoting awareness and collaboration: encouraging interested federal employees to join discussions, including those within current USGCRP agencies and new agencies. The FARG currently has members from more than 15 federal agencies, with expertise in a wide range of fields. The FARG hosts webinars with both federal and non-federal experts for cross-agency learning.
Supporting the National Climate Assessment: the FARG conducted a review of the public draft of the Fifth NCA, and a subgroup of the FARG is providing guidance on downscaling methodologies and downscaled climate projection data for use in the NCA.
Coordinating climate services: the FARG is playing a role in implementing the recommendations of the the recently released Federal Framework and Action Plan for Climate Services. Many of the agencies represented in the FARG are active in providing climate services, and the FARG is an active venue for sharing strategies and priorities.
