Senior Research Specialist, National Nature Assessment
Abby Benson is a Senior Research Specialist for the National Nature Assessment. In this role she contributes to the creation and implementation of the National Nature Assessment development process and content, and she provides support on programmatic and technical issues, including support of author teams. Abby is detailed to USGCRP from the U.S. Geological Survey.
Abby is an ecologist and conservation biologist, and through her work with the U.S. Geological Survey she has focused on biodiversity informatics, data science, and open science. As the U.S. Node Manager for the Global Biodiversity Information System and the Ocean Biodiversity Information System she led efforts to standardize and globally share species occurrences. She also led interagency and international working groups in support of openly accessible biodiversity data. She holds an M.S. in Biology from California State University, Fullerton and a B.A in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and a GIS certification from the University of Colorado.
