Ilana Herold

Social Science Specialist

Ilana Herold serves as the Social Science Specialist for the USGCRP National Coordination Office. In this role, she coordinates the Social Sciences Coordinating Committee and works closely with other Interagency Working Groups including the Coasts Interagency Group. She will be the point of contact for several chapters of the 6th National Climate Assessment, including the Social Systems and Justice chapter.

Ilana has a particular interest in the interconnectedness of human and natural systems in the urban context. Her prior experiences include serving as an Environmental Contaminants Research Technician for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, focusing on water quality monitoring in the Northeastern U.S. and sediment remediation in the Anacostia River. She also previously spent a year teaching English in South Korea on a Fulbright grant and interned at the National Institutes of Health and the U.S. Green Building Council.

Ilana holds a Master of Science in Science and Technology Policy from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Technology from the University of Maryland (UMD).
